Chapel St went to the Houses of Parliament on Friday, to run a special reception for the ’200 Chapel St Founders Club’. Hosted by the Rt Hon Stephen Timms, friends and supporters of Chapel St were invited to the reception to hear about Chapel St’s progress and future plans.
Introducing the evening, Stephen Timms – who is the MP for East Ham – acknowledged the important contribution that organisations like Chapel St make to social change in community life. Reception guests also heard from Dr Russell Rook, CEO of Chapel St and special guest Jim Wallis on the importance of social justice.
Sharing recent news, Russell Rook told supporters that Chapel St has now set up a Family Hub, two Health Hubs with the Hurley Group and an employment project. He also talked about Chapel St’s latest ideas and hopes for making change happen through the world of education.
Commenting that as a new organisation, Chapel St has come a long way in a short time. Russell then expressed his hopes of being able to invite everyone back in one year and celebrate more projects and initiatives being underway.
Jim Wallis – an American author, pastor and commentator on ethics and public life – challenged guests on the working for justice in public life. Commenting on life in America, Jim said that
The strength of a nation shouldn’t be assessed on it’s GNP, military fire power or whether it’s popular culture is the envy of the world, but rather on how we treat the most vulnerable among us.
As a change agency working in under-resourced communities, Chapel St exists to create innovative services in education, employment and healthcare. We would like to thank everyone for their support and for coming to our reception. We look forward to making change happen with you in the months ahead.
