Atherton Community School – Opening 2012
The Department for Education has accepted proposals from Chapel St, along with local parents, teachers and community leaders, to open Atherton Community School, a new Free School serving children and families in Atherton, Wigan, in 2012.
Chapel St is delighted to have this opportunity to serve the community and to work with Fred Longworth High School and other local partners to provide a new Secondary School and Sixth Form to transform the educational opportunities and life prospects of children and families in Atherton.
This page brings you an overview of the plans for the new school. A new school web site and registration details will soon be available and parents and community members are welcome to sign up for email updates giving the latest news and developments below.
We are currently planning a series of open evening meetings for community members to hear more about the school on 3rd and 17th November. All are welcome. Read more.
Introducing Atherton Community School
Welcome to Atherton Community School. Our school’s top priority is to equip the children of Atherton to achieve long-lasting success in school and society and in the workplace and the world. Atherton Community School will help to transform the lives of children, celebrate every child’s strengths and talents, provide personalised and creative routes to learning and actively engage parents and carers in their child’s education. Atherton Community School will grow a student population of 450 secondary students, combined with 200 Sixth Form students. The school location will be announced shortly.
